Connectedness and Cultural Vibrancy

Metcalfe Park is a majority Black community with a wide range of diverse Black folks and a growing Asian and Latinx population. Because of this, we are dedicated to building a community within our neighborhood that respects the diversity of minds, bodies, and backgrounds.

We are strive to have an abundant community; connecting with each other through our culture.

OUR GOALS

Goal #1

Strengthen neighborhood identity and connect residents across cultures and geography

Goal #2

Increase the number of businesses that reflect the cultural diversity of the neighborhood.

OUR STRATEGY

Strategy #1

Install culturally relevant art in the neighborhood and have a street name changed to Ralph Metcalfe Street.

Strategy #2

Identify and work with partners to help support small business diversity (i.e., surveying community and planning).

Strengthen & Connect

We have much to celebrate regarding our community’s diverse talents and rich history. To recognize and celebrate our different backgrounds while joining together, we actively work to install culturally relevant artwork throughout our neighborhood while supporting artists from within the community.

Small business development

We envision our corridors lined with businesses that not only serve each of the diverse resident groups in our community but are operated by owners from the community. To support this, we identify and work with partners, inspiring business owners and connecting them with entrepreneurial training, networking, and the resources to open businesses.
